Just thought I’d ask
Having been off island for some time this summer I was able to take a few steps back from the day-to-day drama of Saipan to assess some personal issues as well as to assess CNMI issues at large.
I’ve discovered that there is so much to ponder and to be concerned about that it becomes difficult to know where to begin. Nonetheless here we go.
A few questions to get “up to speed”:
1. Did I somehow miss the announcement on the winners of the big drawing associated with the Rotary Club’s Las Vegas Night. Is the drawing completed? Did I win anything?
2. Did the Governor actually declare a state of emergency for the CNMI regarding the operation of CUC on Aug. 1 and not inform the Legislature (or anyone else?) until Aug. 14? Is that in keeping with transparency and full-disclosure? Is it legal, usual, and customary?
3. Did a $4.7 million funding bill get introduced and voted upon in a single morning? Was it significantly altered and amended from the first time it was introduced? Did the people’s representatives have adequate time and resources to read, understand and investigate all of the items funded before it was put to a vote? Was due diligence accomplished?
4. Did Rep. Pete Reyes really admonish Rep. Tina Sablan in public saying that she should “get on board the train or be left behind”? And did he go further and accuse her of being against all the “worthwhile” interests that were earmarked in the above referenced bill?
5. Does the $50,000 Little League funding only benefit boys, and not girls? Is there some funding somewhere for girls? Or for that matter for children who don’t play baseball?
6. Are workers and visitors to the main power plant really instructed to back into the parking spaces so they can make a quick escape should the plant begin to burn or explode? Are workers really at risk of being maimed or killed by engines which appear on the verge of exploding?
Just thought I’d ask.
