Only 3 engines at PP1 working
All but one of the engines at Power Plant 1 have decreased in operational power in the last month, according to CUC’s latest power generation status report.
Of the three engines that are working in Power Plant 1, only engine number 3 has remained steady in the last month with 5 megawatts of power. The engine is designed to produce 7.3 watts.
Engines 6 and 8 have both decreased. Engine 6 has decreased from 5.2 MW last month to 5 MW this month, according to the report. The engine is designed for 13 MW.
Engine number 8, which was operating at 5 megawatts last month, was shutdown Sunday in order to move the motor to engine 6.
Engine number 1 has been under maintenance since Nov. 12, 2006, while engine number 4 has been down since July 16, 2005, due to a crankpin seizure. Engine 5 has been down since April 12, 2008, because the valves injector, liner and cylinder need to be replaced. Engine 7 is undergoing alternator repair.
Altogether, Power Plant 1 is designed to produce 81.2 megawatts of power, but is only coming up with 15 megawatts.
All six engines are down at Power Plant 2. Engines 2, 3 and 4 are down and are waiting for parts and maintenance. Engine 1 is down due to abnormal sound from the turbocharger. Engine 5 was also stopped July 16 because of abnormal sounds from the turbocharger. Engine 6 is undergoing an adjustment of the fuel injection system.
Nine of the 10 engines at privately operated Power Plant 4 are operational. Of the 20 megawatts that Power Plant 4 is designed for, 14.6 megawatts is currently available.
The three plants are capable of 116.2 megawatts of power, but only 29.6 megawatts are currently available, according to the report.
