Summer Jam bands to perform Aug. 24

Ten bands will join Beach Road Magazine’s “Saipan Summer Jam” on Aug. 24 at Saipan Grand Hotel’s Club V.

“It’s definitely going to be a night of different varieties of music,” said Beach Road Magazine’s account manager Susan Marchitti.

“With about a month of planning for the event, the 10 slots were filled up so fast. I received a lot of phone calls from bands that are interested to join,” she added.

Entrance fee will be $5 with one free non-alcohol drink with no age limit. “Adults that want to drink alcohol will receive a wrist band as a mark to show bartenders that they are allowed to drink, said Marchitti.

The judges will be musicians and they will decide on who the Top 3 winners will be.

The judging criteria will be based on showmanship (25 percent), originality (25 percent), audience impact on text votes (20 percent), and overall performance (30 percent).

Winners will get a chance to perform at Palms Resort Saipan’s “Back-to-School Summer Bash” on Aug. 30.

“This is the first time that we are going to have an event like this, and it’s really suppose to be fun for every one and it have affordable prizes,” said Marchitti.

Additional prizes will be announced in a later date.

Band groups are required to bring their own instruments to the event and stagehands will be available to help with the setup of instruments.

Each band has at least two members and will give a 20-minute performance.

The final band performance are Project X, The Frozen Nipple Band, Rated R, Fritada, Past & Present, J2, D is for Dangerous, The high pitch band, The Channel band, and The Burning Bush Band.

As of Aug, 7, currently leading with the most votes of 21 is The High Pitch band.

To text vote, input the name of your favorite band and their four-digit number and then send it. PTI will charge 10 cents per vote. Voting will end on Aug. 24, 2008 at 8pm.
