The 2008 Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League will have a mandatory meeting at 5pm today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.

Coordinator and Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands president Elias Rangamar said all team managers and coaches are requested to attend the mandatory meeting.

“Matters to be discussed include; ground rules, league schedule, team registration forms, waiver forms, etc. All forms will be disseminated today. All requirements and forms are due this Thursday, July 31, no later than 4:30pm,” he said in an email to the Saipan Tribune.

Earlier, Rangamar said the 18-and-under basketball competition is eyeing an Aug. 4 start. Entrance fee for the Rotary league is $150 for the 15-18 division, while teams hoping to see action in the 14-and-under age group need only to fork over $100.

Division I (15-18) will be played Monday to Friday beginning Aug. 4, while Division II (12-14) will only play during weekends, according to Rangamar.

He added that uniforms—at least the top—are required for all teams wishing to take part in the 18-and-under competition.

The defending champion for the 2008 Rotary league is the Rufino Aguon-coached CNMI Junior Nationals, which beat the Southern Sonics in their winner-take-all finals late last year in a score of 98-91.
