CNMI courts building superintendent Joe Guzman has resigned effective last Wednesday “for personal reasons,” Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.

Courts spokesperson Gin Gridley said CNMI Supreme Court chief justice Miguel S. Demapan accepted Guzman’s resignation.

Gridley said she has no information as to when Guzman submitted his resignation letter to Demapan. She said that’s the only information she could provide.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents and local police officers, seized several marijuana plants during a three-day operation on Saipan and Tinian last week.

Saipan Tribune learned from sources that during the operation on Saipan, a CNMI courts employee was taken by DEA agents to their office in Garapan. A judiciary’s van used by the employee was also seized.

Until now, it is not clear if the court employee was arrested or only questioned. His name was not released by authorities but KSPN TV identified him as Guzman.

A check with the courts indicated that Guzman has not been reporting for work since last Wednesday.

DEA agents used a helicopter to search for marijuana plants on Saipan on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, sources said, DEA agents moved to Tinian where they seized many marijuana plants.

As of yesterday, Guzman has not been charged either in federal or local courts.
