Youth Congress reorganizing
The 10th CNMI Youth Congress has decided to reorganize itself.
The Youth Congress passed “The CNMI Youth Congress Reorganization Act of 2009” in order to ensure better representation by schools with larger enrollment numbers and taking positions from precincts that have shown modest constituents and registered voters, according to the bill.
Previously, Precincts 1 and 3, and the Northern Marianas College had three senators each.
Now, Precincts 1 through 5 on Saipan will each have 1 senator. Tinian will now be known as Precinct 6 and will have one senator. Rota will be Precinct 7 and have one senator.
Because only two of three senator seats were filled at NMC, the college will now only have one senator.
School representation will also change. Each public and private high school with more than 20 students who wish to participate can have one senator. Each participating public and private high school with more than 300 students (previously 1,000 students) will have one additional senator for every 300 (previously 500) students over 300 (previously 1,000).
The bill has been sent to CNMI Legislature for approval. (Kristi Eaton)
