Hiro hails Kimball’s effort
Grace Kimball’s record-breaking performance in last weekend’s 2008 SSC Summer Classic did not only caught the eye of his mentor but also of Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura’s.
In a recent email to the Saipan Tribune, Kimura echoed Saipan Swim Club head coach Michael Stewart’s praises to the 12-year-old achiever.
“The result of Grace’s 100m freestyle was so respectfully. There is no female swimmer in the CNMI today who can beat that swim. I truly believe that she is currently the top female freestyle swimmer of the CNMI,” he said.
The coach of Tsunami Saipan, who shook hands with the departing Stewart during last weekend’s meet, said the rest of the members of the fledgling club shares his opinion on Kimball’s performance.
“Not only me, but all of Tsunami swimmers and parents were impressed by her performance. Her result was also expected by our team because Tsunami Saipan swimmers know she practices hard all the time,” he added.
Tsunami Saipan and SSC swimmers share the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.
Kimball made waves in the pool in last Friday’s and Saturday’s meet when her 1:05.92 in the 100m freestyle set a new record in the girls’ 12-and-under age group.
She also came close to the 200m and 50m freestyle records, missing both by tenths of a second, according to Stewart. Kimball also dropped seconds off her personal bests in the 200m freestyle to 2:26.98 and a second faster in the 50m freestyle to 30.68.
In related news, Kimura reminded Tsunami Saipan parents and swimmers as well as those interested that the club’s 2008-2008 season will start of Aug. 4.
“We have some more slots in 6-8 years-old beginners class and youth beginners class,” he said, adding that Tsunami Saipan will soon roll out a program for children 5 years old and under.
