Mangarero wins RGA July Ace
Manny Mangarero topped the Refaluwasch Golf Association’s July Ace of the Month Tournament last Saturday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course after beating Ben Duenas’ qualifying score.
Mangarero fired a net score of 64 built around the 12-handicapper’s 76 gross (37 in the front and 39 in the back) to eclipse Duenas’ qualifying net score of 68, which the latter shot during the 9th Annual St. Jude Golf Tournament held last June 21 at the same Kagman golf course.
Former CNMI national golfer Nick Sablan finished second in the weekend tourney with his net 66 (gross 73, 38-35), while Dwain Stephens came in third with his net 67 (gross 91, 44-47).
Other golfers that took part in the monthly tee off were Tars Olopai (70), Louie Tilipao (net 71), Jess Wabol (71), Andy Nepaial (72), Sonny Flores (73), Asterio Tawanpiy (75), Bill Kaipat (76), and Tom Tebuteb (93).
In the closest to the pin competition, Tawanpiy was without peer in hole No. 3, while Nick Sablan topped hole No. 13.
RGA would also like to welcome new members Tebuteb and Jerry Ayuyu, who wasn’t able to take part in the July Ace because of a prior commitment.
In related news, Wabol is reminding Ace of the Month winners that they need to have played in a minimum of six tournaments (including qualifiers) in order to qualify for the yearend RGA Club Championship. Only two tournaments remain before the RGA Club Championship—December qualifier and the December Ace.
Wabol also said that the club has halved its membership dues for 2008 from the long-standing fee of $50 to only $25.
This happened after RGA recognized the hard economic times and decided to give its members and future members a break by slashing the cost of becoming part of RGA.
The club hopes that by making membership in RGA a little lighter in the pocket, more weekend warriors will now return to the golf links and renew their membership or apply as new members of the golf club.
