Ted Malaran fired only the second lowest score of the Fil-Taga Golfers Association July Ace of the Month Tournament last July 13 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course, but that didn’t prevent the Aqua Resort Club purchasing manager from winning the monthly plum.

This happened after the weekend’s topnotcher, Henry Bautista, already secured the May Ace and Rey Ferraz, who finished tied with Malaran, was the June winner. As per club rules, players can only win one monthly tourney in the course of a year.

This Malaran, with his net 70 (91 gross), was hailed Fil-Taga’s July Ace of the Month. Bautista still got the moneybag, though, with his net 66 (79 gross) with Ferraz (91 gross) and Freddie Cataluna (80 gross) tying Malaran with their identical 70.

Mike Cruz (71 net), Nestor “Dodong” Siruelo (72 net), John Matsumoto (75 net), Leo Ganacias (76 net), Mando Guban (77 net), Manny Corcuera (79 net), Dan Ganacias (80 net), and James Lim (83) also took part in Fil-Taga’s July Ace.

Fil-Taga’s officers are led by president Jun Dela Cruz Jr., vice-president Jhun Calma, secretary Manny Po, and treasurer Guban.

Its board of directors is made up of Fr. Manny Corcuera, Miguel Cruz, Jr., Ted Malaran, Gil Faller, Rey Ferraz, Greg De Torres, Rene Batallones, Nestor Siruelo, and George Sablan

Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.

A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.
