Tsunami Saipan’s new season to start Aug. 4
Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan will start its 2008-2008 season on Aug. 4 and this early, head coach Hiro Kimura is already envisioning big things for the fledgling swim club.
“There are many targets for each swimmer in the new season. For Rezne Wong, it will be the Junior Pan Pacific, which will be held in Guam this January 2009. For Shin Kimura, I want him to break the CNMI record this year and for Marystar Welch, getting some medals at the Guam International Meet will be the priority,” he said in an email to the Saipan Tribune.
Kimura also has his eyes on Tsunami Saipan’s next generation of swimmers and said the club’s tadpoles are anticipated to grow up quickly under the club’s guidance at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool this coming season.
“I promise Tsunami’s Angels—Angel De Jesus and Angel Marie Tan—that they will make a big splash this season. Hiroto Yanai, who is still seven years old, has also improved so much.
“Tennis player Thea Minor has also improved well. I’m looking forward for her to become one of the club’s premier butterfliers. I also expect good results this coming season from Ashley and Salofi Welch as well as Kaito Yanai, who is the champion of 2008 Saipan International Swim Meet,” he said.
Kimura also is inviting the island’s parents to enroll their children in Tsunami Saipan’s 6-8 years old beginner’s class.
“Our beginner’s class’ goal is to take part in the swim meet. Tsunami Saipan pursues the real sport of swimming, not recreational swimming,” he said.
The Tsunami Saipan head coach said slots are still open for the club’s older age group.
“We still have more some space for the youth beginner class that is for 10 years old and over. And we will open a class for 5-year-olds pretty soon.”
