Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan will be launching a new beginners class for the upcoming 2008-2009 season, where children from six to eight years old are invited to swim with the fledgling club.

“This class is a limited only for 6-8-years-old and a real sports swimming class, not baby swimming, not kids recreation. The goal of this class is for the children to take part in future swim meets,” according to Tsunami Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura.

One such swimmer Tsunami Saipan has trained its sights on is 7-year-old Vincent Fajardo, who took part in the club’s most recent American Red Cross Water Safety Course.

He added that Tsunami Saipan is also currently looking at the possibility of opening an even younger beginners class where 5-year-olds can train with the club.

“We want to make new generation swimmers of the CNMI. Next, when we will be ready we want to start a class for 5-year-olds, I hope to invite kids who showed promise in the ARC Water Safety Course that ended just this Saturday. I am sure we will be able to setup soon.”

Among the children that showed promise during the clinic, according to Kimura, were 5-year-old Yuma Fitial and 4-year-olds Juhn Tenorio and Maxine Rabago.

Tsunami Saipan concluded its latest ARC Water Safety Course last Saturday at Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan with 63 students receiving their certificate of completions.

Club president Stan Good earlier said of the 63 who graduated, 22 were from Level I, 16 from Level 2, 19 from Level 3, and four in Level 6. Level 1 is for beginners, while Level 6 is for advance swimmers.

Last Saturday’s conclusion of Tsunami Saipan’s ARC Water Safety Course was its third for the 2007-2008 season. In all, a total of 188 have already leaned to swim under the fledgling club’s program, broken down as follows: 56 in October 2007; 69 in April 2008, and 63 in July 2008.
