Grey to speak on how to prepare for federalization
Melvin L. Grey, director of Immigration for the CNMI, will be speaking to human resource professionals on the island Thursday next week on how companies can prepare for the impending takeover of local immigration policies by the federal government.
Grey will be the guest speaker during the Society for Human Resource Management’s monthly Chapter meeting and his topic is called Tips on How to Prepare Your Business for Federalization.
With the implementation of federal immigration eminently around the corner, many businesses in the CNMI are unprepared for the disruption that the new laws will bring. Business owners as well as human resource professionals will need to prepare effective strategies to minimize federalization’s profound impact on their respective organizations.
“With the fragile economic conditions also facing the CNMI, there is a need to educate all areas of our community on how to prepare for the new immigration system. This is a reality that will significantly affect the workplace in the CNMI. This is one meeting you do not want to miss,” said the group in a statement issued yesterday.
The Chapter meeting will be held at Charley’s Cabaret, Pacific Islands Club, on July 17, 2008. Doors open at 11:15am for registration. Cost for members is $15 and $20 for non-SHRM members (government purchase orders accepted). Cost includes lunch. Reservations are requested. Individuals interested in attending this meeting should contact Frannie T. Salas at e-mail francestsalas@gmail.com, Polly Deleon Guerrero at e-mail pdlguerrero@mymarianas.com or Tommy Kennington at PIC’s HR department at 234-7976.
