Ladera International School of Saipan will open up its TOEFL iBT Test Center this June 29, 2008. The center has 10 computers that are already programmed for administering the TOEFL test through Educational Testing Services.

“We have been working with ETS and Thompson Prometrics over the last six months to offer the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) on island through our school,” said LISS director Wayne Pangelinan. The test will be another reason to visit the CNMI.

“In most cases, students will come for a few days, stay in hotels, eat at restaurants and enjoy the island before and after taking the test,” said Pangelinan.

To register for the test, registrants must go to www.ets.org and source “Northern Mariana Islands” in the country to avail of test dates that are held every other week on the LISS campus.

Edu-tourism, pioneered by LISS and supported by the CNMI government, has seen a major improvement in the last two years. “In July, we expect to see an influx of students coming in from Japan, Korea and Russia. We are ecstatic to know our marketing efforts in these countries through our partners are progressing. Approximately 150 students is expected to be on Saipan in July and August for the LISS summer program and regular school year,” said Pangelinan.
