Stimulus checks shouldn’t be cut
The CNMI government plays a critical role by issuing stimulus checks to all eligible tax filers. I have learned that many people who are eligible to receive the stimulus check from Uncle Sam are being cut. Based on my understanding, there are specific guidelines from the federal government regarding the standard payment of the stimulus check. Please correct me if I am wrong but according to the information that I saw in the article, it is clearly stated that all couples are entitled to receive $1,200, individual filer is $600, and $300 for each child.
I overheard that it depends on the filer’s income. I have no knowledge from the Department of Finance regarding the cut of the stimulus checks. The department should send out notice regarding the plan of cutting checks. Why are they cutting the checks when there are guidelines issued by the federal government?
I believe Guam is better because their plan is to pay off pending bills owed the government, instead of going ahead and cutting stimulus checks without any prior notice.
As for CNMI government, there must be a realistic question as to where the money that’s being cut will go. In my opinion, this isn’t fair because some people received the correct amount and some are being cut. I am urging the appropriate agency to look into this matter and resolve this immediately. I will understand if the cutting measure will go to any of the people’s government debt. For those of you that believe you are being deprived of your stimulus check, I urge you to express your concern. As you all know, there must be a fair and equal disbursement as required from the issuance.
Once again, stop the cutting and do not cheat the people. Shame on you, CNMI government! What happened to the leaders? Useless if they opposed the move to garnish the stimulus checks.
Please do something about it for your people. We have the right to question, it’s the people’s money.
