Gov. Benigno R. Fitial says he will endorse a candidate for delegate, but he has not made up his mind as to who that candidate will be.

The NMI Republican Party has announced that Resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio will be its candidate in the historic congressional election on Nov. 4, 2008. But the ruling Covenant Party has been silent about fielding any candidate.

“I have some people in mind, but I have not really considered which one I will endorse. I will make an announcement later,” he said.

He declined to say whether the individuals he has in mind are among those who have declared their candidacy.

In addition to Tenorio, those who are running to become the Northern Marianas’ first delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives are Sen. Luis Crisostimo, retired judge Juan T. Lizama, Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Gregorio Sablan, television talk show host John Oliver Gonzales, and businessman Patrick M. Calvo.

Crisostimo, a member of the national Democratic Party, has said he will run as a Democrat. All of the other candidates are running independent.
