The Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association has scrapped its planned 2008 Summer Indoor Volleyball League originally set for June 23.

NMIVA president Laurie Peterka said the cancellation was due to scheduling complications and lack of committee participation.

“My deepest apologies, but it is impossible to run an entire organization without cooperative support. The board would love to see new people step up, volunteer, and takeover to help make continuing our events possible. Thank you for your understanding,” she said in an email the Saipan Tribune.

While Peterka was sad to have cancelled the 2008 Summer Indoor Volleyball League, she told her members and the island’s volleyball aficionados to get ready for the 2008 Winter Indoor League set for November.

She was also happy to report that NMIVA will be having a coaches clinic run by the world’s volleyball governing body, Federation Internationale de Volleyball, in August.
“This will be the premier event of this year! A crowning moment for NMIVA—we were graciously selected to participate in an FIVB underprivileged countries program. The Volleyball Cooperation Programme is part of Volleyball World Vision 2012,” she said.

The coaches clinic will be held from Aug. 18 to 25.
Peterka added that FIVB will be sending Tomas Santamaria from Australia to serve as the instructor for FIVB Coaches Course Level I—How to Coach.

“We would like to open this opportunity to as many interested persons as possible,” she added.

NMIVA is the CNMI’s umbrella volleyball association covering all aspects of indoor and outdoor games and players.

NMIVA is a bona fide current member of FIVB and the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association. All of its fundraisers put money into the development of volleyball in the CNMI.

Those wishing to become a member can do so for only $20 a year and that entitles you to regular email updates and discounts on all NMIVA-sanctioned volleyball events throughout the year.
