Diego B. Songsong emerged from a Senate session Wednesday afternoon as the newly confirmed Department of Public Works secretary.

Songsong, who had been serving as the secretary of the Department of Public Works in an acting capacity since March 12, garnered eight votes from the Senate in favor of his appointment.

Songsong had been serving as Deputy DPW secretary prior to replacing Jose Demapan, who tendered his resignation last March.

According to Songsong, he plans to process federal capital improvements projects in a timely and responsible manner.

“We just have to move forward with our projects. There is so much to be done, and I am ready to do that,” Songsong said.

The Senate did not require a testimony regarding Songsong’s nomination, nor did they inquire about his plans for DPW.

In an earlier statement, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said that Songsong has had many years of service at DPW and that he is confident in the newly confirmed department secretary’s ability to “capably manage the department and foster unity and teamwork among DPW employees.”

Songsong has expressed his appreciation towards the governor, lieutenant governor, and the Senate for entrusting him with such responsibility. He also pledged that he would do his best for the department.
