Trench Tech fighters nearly sweep Art Of War II
Trench Tech fighters nearly swept the gold medals at stake in last Saturday’s Art Of War II All-Island Grappling/Submission Tournament held at the Trench Tech Purebred Saipan Gym’s new home in San Antonio.
Trench Tech won the gold medals in the bantamweight, featherweight, super lightweight, lightweight, and welterweight divisions, while Choke Chain’s Syl “The Deal” Teregeyo and Kelvin “The Big Hit” Fitial topped the middleweight and heavyweight classes.
Trench Tech’s Shane “Pika Boo”Alvarez led the list of winners when he won the bantamweight division gold, beating Team Guam’s Joel Valencia. Gracie Barra’s Jay “Taby” Muna settled for the bronze.
Chris Layug completed a Trench Tech sweep in the featherweight division when he defeated teammate Jay “Furbs” Santos while compatriot “Badd” Brad Palacios won the bronze.
James Fleming prolonged Trench Tech’s success when he downed Zogai’s Buddy Igitol in the lightweight division’s gold medal match while Trench Tech’s Sixtus Aquino earned the bronze.
Veteran MMA fighter Giovanni “Palaxi” Sablan of Trench Tech routed Fasi Jesse to claim the lightweight division gold medal while Gracie Barra’s Nate “Nats” Flores bagged the bronze.
The welterweight divison was another Trench Tech sweep with Ken “Kamakazi” Tanzawa, Nick “2 Quick” Schumake, and Tom Kim winning the gold, silver, and bronze.
Teregeyo ended Trench Tech’s gold medal rush when he outsmarted Trench Tech’s Jason Tarkong in the middleweight divisions’ gold medal bout. Kyle Peterson of Trench Tech won the bronze.
Fitial remains one of the islands’ top heavyweight fighters, winning the gold by beating Joe Ocampo of Trench Tech, while Team Xtreme’s “Kill” Bill Saures won the bronze.
