Vacationing alien workers should first notify Labor
Vacationing alien workers, including those who have work permits in their possession, are now required to notify the Department of Labor about their exit.
Labor public education and outreach director Rose Ada-Hocog told Saipan Tribune yesterday a foreign national worker who fails to file before departing the CNMI may be precluded from entering the Commonwealth.
Ada-Hocog said under Section 5 of the Labor Rules and Regulations pursuant to Public Law 15-108 states that “a foreign national worker who exits during the term of an approved employment contract shall file, with the enforcement division, a notice on the standard form provided by the Department.”
The director said the workers can get the notice form by downloading it from Labor’s website www.marianaslabor.net.
“They just fill out the notice of exit and turn it in to Jeffrey Camacho of the Labor Enforcement Section,” Ada-Hocog said.
Asked when was the implementation of the new policy started, Ada-Hocog only stated “it’s ongoing” pursuant to Public Law 15-108 or the new reform labor law.
It is not clear when Labor actually started implementing the new policy as alien workers who went on vacation last March to early April were not required to fill up the exit notice.
It is also not clear what will happen to those who are already exited the CNMI for vacation. Labor is expected to answer some of the workers’ concerns today.
