A local company will join ISA CNMI in a cleaning up Banzai Cliff and the surrounding area in Marpi this coming Sunday morning.

Pacific Eagle Enterprises, Inc., along with ISA CNMI, will clean the monument in collaboration with Nenpou Shinkyou Kongouji beginning 10 am on May 18.

Company vice president Ayako Matsumoto said more than 200 volunteers from the temple the will join the three groups in the activity.

“I always try to spread a beauty virus to Japanese tourist and the community,” she said.

The cleanup and the arrival of temple members are in conjunction with the unveiling of the new monument built at Banzai Cliff.

The memorial monument was built and donated by the Head Temple of Nenpou Shinkyou Kongouji to honor the hundreds of Japanese civilians who jumped to their deaths screaming a final salute to their emperor in the last days of the battle on Saipan during World War II.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 19, from 1:30pm to 2:15pm.

The unveiling ceremony will be attended by Lt. Gov. Tim P. Villagomez, Department of Public Lands Secretary John Del Rosario, Nenpou Shinkyou president Ryoyu Okeya, and other government officials and representatives from Japan and the CNMI. (PR)
