EMO warns of strong waves today
The Emergency Management Office is warning the public to stay out of the waters along west facing reefs until this evening due to high waves created by distant supertyphoon Rammasun that had just passed through the region.
In a high surf advisory it issued yesterday, EMO said the warning is in effect until 6pm Tuesday along west facing reefs.
Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at EMO, moderate east to southeast trade winds will persist through the forecast period. Combined seas were expected to peak yesterday and last night near small craft advisory heights as the largest swells created by Rammasun pass through.
EMO is strongly advising the public—especially beachgoers, fishermen, tour operators, and divers—to avoid venturing near reefs lines and exposed beaches as wind and waves support dangerous rip currents.
Today until tonight, east winds are forecasted at 10 to 15 kt., wind waves at 3 to 4 ft., east swell at 5 ft and west swell at 5 to 6 ft.
Tomorrow, east winds are predicted at 10 to 15 kt., with wind waves of 3 to 5 ft., mixed swell east 5 ft and northeast 3 to 4 ft. (EMO)
