Prizes set for May Car Rally
Cash prizes are at stake in this year’s Beach Road Magazine 2nd Annual Car Rally set for May 24.
Cash prizes will be given to the top three winners: $250 for first prize, $200 for second prize and $150 for third prize.
Other prizes include overnight stays at the Saipan Grand Hotel, various gift certificates, gift bags, and duffle bags.
Beach Road Magazine account manager Susan Marchitti, who is the event’s overall coordinator, said she is hoping to gather more prizes to give away to each participating car.
Winners will be announced at the Oleai Beach Bar & Grill in the evening of May 25.
Last year, the car rally drew at least 13 cars. “We’re hoping that more will participate this year,” Marchitti said.
“We are getting more excited by the day as we continue getting inquiries from interested parties. Surely, this event is something to be a part of. It’s an adventure of a lifetime,” she added.
The 2nd Annual Car Rally registration is $15 for each car and space is limited to 60 cars.
Check-in time is at 9am and location is still a secret until the day before the rally. The first car to arrive will be the first to go, and cars will leave at two-minute intervals to avoid traffic. There will be five checkpoints, and a new set of instructions will be given at each checkpoint. Cars are timed from checkpoint to checkpoint, so arriving late at one will not adversely affect your time during the next section.
Marchitti said the car rally route is still being finalized; however it promises to be even more challenging than last year’s.
The Car Rally is one of the most popular motoring events in the United States and Europe. It is not a speeding contest, rather a cross between a scavenger hunt and an IQ test behind the wheel.
Entry forms for this year’s rally are still available. They can be found inside Beach Road Magazine’s May issue or can be filled out and submitted to the Glimpses of Saipan Office on the Second Floor of the Transpac Business Center in Gualo Rai.
This year’s 2nd Annual Car Rally is sponsored by Shell Marianas, Pacific Telecom Inc., Department of Public Safety, American Red Cross, Pacific Islands Club, Oleai Beach Bar & Grill, Aquarius Beach Tower and Budget Car Rental.
