Man allegedly strangles son
Police arrested on Friday a man who allegedly squeezed the forearm of his 14-year-old son and strangled him inside a pickup truck. The boy was shaken but unhurt.
Patrick Camacho Castro, 32, was arrested for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
When a police officer responded to Castro’s house in Sadog Tasi, the boy was observed to be hysterical and was shaking.
The wife told police that Castro had been acting weird the past two days before the incident. She expressed fear for her safety and her children’s.
Detective Elias Q. Saralu stated in his report that, according to the juvenile, his father took him on their pickup truck early Friday morning to drop him off at a school bus stop.
Along the way, the boy asked Castro to sign the paper he had for their school activity.
Castro asked the boy to go ahead and write his name. While the boy was doing so, his father grabbed the paper from him.
The defendant then handed a chisel with a wooden handle to his son and told him to hold it.
At that point, Castro decided to turn back home. On their way back to the house, as the boy was still holding the chisel in his right hand, Castro held his right forearm and started squeezing it hard.
The boy asked his father to stop because he was hurting him. When the chisel fell from the boy’s hand, Castro grabbed him by the neck and started strangling him.
The minor said he tried to free himself, but was unable to do so. He said he could feel his eyes about to pop and was having a hard time breathing.
Castro reportedly let go only when they reached the house. The boy ran inside and told his mother about what had happened.
The boy’s mother then called the police. She told police that every time she would ask her husband what’s wrong with him in the past two days, he would just either ignore her or tell her to shut up.
Castro was taken to the Superior Court yesterday for a bail hearing. Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama imposed a $1,250 cash bail for his temporary liberty and set the preliminary hearing for May 19 at 9am.
