Members of a visiting team from the Western Association of Accrediting Schools and Colleges are currently doing a two-day review on the accreditation status of Hopwood Junior High School, whose six-year accreditation expires this year.

Robert Maez, chairperson of the accrediting team, arrived on Sunday with members Richard Anbe and Roberta Abaday. They met with parents of HJHS students that same evening.

Yesterday, the team met with PSS officials Tim Thornburgh, Federal Programs adviser, and Charles Kenty, who is associate commissioner for Administrative Services and director of Finance.

According to HJHS principal Christine Tudela-Masga, the WASC representatives are also inquiring about the school’s academic programs and available resources. They will also offer recommendations that would help the school maintain its accreditation.

“It’s all part of the accreditation process,” she said.

The WASC representatives are scheduled to present their report of their findings and recommendations this afternoon at 3pm at the Hopwood campus.

Anbe and Abaday are scheduled to leave later tonight while Maez will remain on island to visit the Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, Marianas High School and Garapan Elementary School.

Other schools that will be visited by the accrediting team this year are San Vicente Elementary School, Oleai Elementary School, Rota Junior High, and Sinapalo Elementary School.

Last month, WASC representatives visited the Northern Marianas College and Tanapag Elementary School.
