Athletics schedule for Micro Games out

The tentative schedule of events for the athletics competition in the 2018 Micronesian Games has been released with the tournament running from July 16 to 19 at the Yap Sports Complex oval.

Athletics will start with the men and women’s 10K on July 16 at 7am, while the 13 remaining events in the opening day will take place in the afternoon session. Events lined up are the women’s 100m hurdles, shot put, 200m run, and high jump for the heptathlon, women and men’s 100m run heats, women’s long jump, women and men’s 400m run heats, men’s discus, and women’s javelin. The finals for the men and women’s 100m runs are set for the final event of the evening of Day 1.

Then on Day 2, the octathlon will start along with the remaining events (finals) in heptathlon. Others scheduled for July 17 are the finals of the men and women’s 400m runs, men’s long jump, women’s shot put, men’s 500m run, and women’s high jump.

For the penultimate day, athletes will compete in relays (4x100m in men and women’s divisions), 200m run heats, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s and women’s 800m finals, men’s high jump, women’s triple jump, and the remaining events in octathlon.

For the last day of the competition, runners will still have the relays (4x400m) along with the finals of the 200m runs, 1,500m, women’s discus, men’s javelin, men’s triple jump, and hurdles (men’s 110 and women’s 100).

The CNMI will be fielding 18 individuals in the athletics events. The list includes Mark Esalan, Nick Gross, Antonio Ichiuo, Jamie Pangelinan, Tyler Santos, Gabriel Sappa, Ronald Olopai, Jerlyn Castillo, Leani Acosta, Therize Millare, Traven Quitugua, Beo Ngirchongor, Orrin Pharmin, Douglas Schmidt, Neldreyton Skerei, Lia Rangamar, Rachel Abrams, Zarinae Sapong.
