(UOG  University of Guam accounting majors Ariel Lugue, Theresa Tropel, Ronalisa Provido, Sherillou Cura, Bridgete Maranan, and Mark Lero received scholarships for passing three graduate level accounting courses with a grade point average of 3.0 or above. The courses are offered through a partnership between the UOG School of Business and Public Administration, the Guam Board of Accountancy, and Becker Professional Education.

The graduate accounting courses include significant content for those pursuing the U.S. Certified Public Accountant examination and licensure pathway.

“These courses enable our students who aspire to become certified public accountants an opportunity to be adequately prepared to take and pass the U.S. CPA examination series, as well as to acquire additional credit hours to meet the CPA examination 150 credit hour requirement,” said Zeny Nace, UOG comptroller and accounting professor.

“Other universities have adopted the Becker educational learning materials as a basis for strengthening their accounting curricula,” according to SBPA dean Anita Enriquez. “Through a Memorandum of Agreement with Becker Professional in Hong Kong, we are able to afford our students a 50-percent discount for course materials. The Guam Board of Accountancy offers a scholarship component to cover educational materials for students who pass these courses and meet or exceed the 3.0 GPA threshold.”

Enriquez also presented a certificate of appreciation to the Guam Board of Accountancy for their sponsorship and support of the Becker U.S. CPA graduate accounting course curricula at the University of Guam. (UOG)
