Even with a late start to the second game of the day between Asahi and Sufa yesterday due to rain, families and friends huddled it out under their tents at the Dandan Softball Field to watch and support Week 2 of the Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association, with Asahi handing Sufa its first loss of the league, 13-8.
In the first inning, both teams came up empty with runners stranded on base, but in the second inning, Sufa scored two runs for an early lead against Asahi, 2-0. Asahi replied right after when Hector Efraim and Ish Amasao scored two runs for a 2-2 tie. Sufa then answered with two runs to lead, 4-2.
However, Asahi lengthened their lead in the third inning when Asahi’s five batters in a row scored in a run each. Sufa answered with a home run by Audie Maratita and scored his teammate in to shorten Asahi’s lead 7-4.
In the fourth inning Asahi was only able to score one run which gave Sufa the opportunity to tie it up by scoring four runs to make 8-all. Asahi then scored one run in the fifth inning and Sufa’s first three batters were shut down and were unable to put up a score.
Then, Asahi’s bats came alive and dominated in the sixth inning to put up four more runs, with one home run by Joe Ito for a big lead of 13-8 to win the game in the seventh inning, when Sufa was unable to hit back.
Asahi is up 2-0 after this win and against Momma Charo during the first game day. With this loss, Sufa is at 1-1 after winning by forfeit against Salty Boys in the first game day.
