Armed robbery at Spring Plaza parking lot
On Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at approximately 10am, police received a call reporting an armed robbery within the Springs Plaza parking lot on Middle Road.
Medics and Department of Public Safety officers arrived at the scene to find the victim, a 22-year-old Korean male, with an injury on his left arm. The victim reported to the DPS Criminal Investigations Branch detectives that he was leaving the Casino Gaming Commission office after his meeting regarding operating a business within the local casino. The victim had left the office and walked to his car. Upon unlocking the driver door, he felt a light tap on his shoulder. Once the victim turned and looked up, he noticed a male—about six feet tall, with brown skin, wearing a Tribe Marianas hoodie, and blue jeans—with a heavy Carolinian accent demanding the victim to surrender his Gucci bag.
When the victim refused, the suspect swung a knife, grazing the victim’s left arm. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s bag, ran near the exit beside Bank of Hawaii as he pulled out $11,850 in cash, dropping the bag before jumping into an older model sedan—light silver or white in color, with the back windows completely covered with yellow packing tape. The suspect fled the scene and headed south on Middle Road.
DPS detectives canvassed the scene to obtain CCTV footage from the adjacent establishments, and were able to review all but two CCTV footage from inactive security cameras belonging to the old SM Mart located south of the Casino Gaming Commission’s office.
The investigation remains ongoing by DPS CIB detectives. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the CIB office at 664-9042. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272 or visit www.nmicrimestoppers.net. (PR)
