Armed with machete, woman confronts text sender

A text message telling her to stop talking allegedly triggered a woman to get drunk, grab a machete, and scream at her text sender, who was sleeping inside his home in As Perdido early Sunday morning.

Suspect Binar Sambile, 51, also allegedly attacked the text sender’s sister, who told her to go home because she was drunk, by grabbing her hair and pulling her down to the ground.

Sambile was taken before Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio on Monday for a bail hearing on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. A $6,500 cash bail was initially imposed.

Police detective Therese S. Kintoki stated in her report that a man called the Department of Public Safety on Sunday at 2:39am about a drunken Sambile causing a disturbance at his residence.

When two officers arrived at the scene, they met a man (not the caller) who told them that his mother, Sambile, was the one creating the disturbance.

The officers then saw Sambile, who was shouting and swinging a machete. Sambile’s son grabbed the machete away and yelled at her to stop because the police were present.

The suspect kept resisting and tried to confront the complainant about his text message to her.

The officer managed to calm down Sambile and escorted her to the other house, but after five minutes, she came rushing down, yelling at the complainant and his sister.

The officer told Sambile that she was yelling at 3am and that she was waking up people, including children in the area. When the defendant continued shouting profanities, she was arrested.

Police learned that prior to the incident, Sambile was complaining about not getting paid for watching her son’s baby, yet the complainant’s wife would get paid whenever she watched the baby.

The complainant later texted Sambile to stop talking. Sambile then started drinking alcoholic beverage and proceeded to the house of the complainant’s sister.
