Armatech drew first blood in the 2018 Emon Lodge No. 179 Brotherhood/IT&E Basketball League after whipping Pacific Postal Plus, 64-44, in the opening game yesterday at the Koblerville Gymnasium.
Young gun Renren Gaviola teamed up with veterans Bernard Montano, Alex Lauron, and Mark Asuhan in giving Armatech the victory in its season debut. Gaviola led all scorers in the curtain-raiser, firing 19 points, while Montano, Lauron, and Asuhan also finished in twin digits. Montano added 14 markers, while Lauron and Asuhan chipped in 10 each.
Armatech set up the easy victory after pulling away in the third period behind the 7 straight points of Gaviola. The lanky guard went on to deliver the killer blows for the winning squad, as he drilled Armatech’s last 9 markers.
Montano and Asuhan, on the other hand, made early contributions in the first half, while Lauron knocked in at least one basket in each of the four periods.
As for Pacific Postal Plus, Ryan Odicta was the lone double-figure scorer on the squad, firing 10, but he was scoreless in the fourth quarter. Four other Pacific Postal Plus players recorded at least 6 points each, but most of their baskets came when the game was already decided.
Meanwhile, Pacific Islands Club Saipan and Imperial Pacific played in the second match in the opening day and results of the game will be reported in Saipan Tribune’s Tuesday edition. PIC Saipan earlier won the Best in Muse and Best in Uniform awards.
