Argument over stolen purses led to man’s arrest for criminal trespass
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly refusing to leave the house of a woman with whom he had an argument with over two purses that had been stolen from a group of tourists.
Syl Kolin Kaipat Teregeyo was arrested for criminal trespass and disturbing the peace.
At a bail hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho released Teregeyo on a $250 unsecured bond instead of the original $3,000 cash bail.
He will be arraigned on May 11 at 9am.
Police detective Rhonda C. John stated in her report that the Department of Public Safety Central had received a call about a disturbing the peace incident in progress at a house along Enrique Street in Chalan Kanoa on Sunday afternoon.
John said she and three other police officers arrived at the scene at 4:15pm and met with the victim, who told them that she was at her mother’s house when her sister called, telling her that Teregeyo was walking toward her house.
The report did not mention the relationship between Teregeyo and the victim.
The victim went to her house to lock all the doors, but then saw that Teregeyo was already inside, opening the front glass sliding door and then closing it again.
The victim told Teregeyo to leave because she does not need him around anymore. Teregeyo replied that he just wanted to talk to her and that he was not the one who stole the purses.
She said Teregeyo lied to her that police have already caught two persons responsible for stealing the purses.
She told him he needs to get out, regardless if he stole the purses or not. He refused to leave and instead sat on the couch in the living room.
She shouted out the window toward her mother, pleading to call the police because Teregeyo refused to leave.
She asked police to arrest Teregeyo. Police then arrested the suspect.
She disclosed that on April 24, a person told her that Teregeyo placed two stolen purses inside her house.
John said her follow-up investigation revealed that the two purses were believed to belong to a group of tourists who were sunbathing at the beach near Aquarius Tower in Chalan Kanoa.
