The recent American Red Cross-NMI Chapter walkathon included more than 3,000 participants on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota who enjoyed a fun-filled morning of exercise and activities, all while supporting the work of the American Red Cross. The Chapter received over $90,000 in donations to support the Red Cross humanitarian work here in the CNMI.
“We had another amazing turn out from our students,” said Tayna Belyeu-Camacho, Red Cross Board chair. “I know thousands of families where helped by the Red Cross after Typhoon Soudelor and this was their opportunity to give back.”
Oleai Elementary School was again a huge supporter, winning three major categories including largest number of walkers (287), total amount of donations ($12,933), and the student with the highest amount collected ($761.55).
Honorable mentions go out to Mt. Carmel and Garapan elementary schools for their large number of walkers as well as Agape Christian Academy ($5,821) and WSR Elementary School ($3,750) for their walkers donations. There were 221 students who raised $75 or more and will receive a Pacific Islands Club Saipan waterpark pass, and $5 gift cards from McDonald’s, Subway, and Hollywood Theater. Special recognition also goes out to Bank of Hawaii for the most spirited aid station.
Congratulations again to all the students, parents, coordinators, and to the business community for supporting the 30th Annual Red Cross Walkathon. For more information about the Walkathon and the Red Cross, please call the NMI Chapter at 234-3459. (PR)
