Tinian Moonlight Memories
Night time southeast cliff notes

The moon reflects on the water
lighting the waves but it never gets wet
it is the sun’s loving darling daughter
oceans use its changes all they can get
The moon lights up clouds in the sky
icy circles surrounding it are reflected
on tropic nights when looking up high
cool winds from the north are expected
Tonight I reflect on the passing of loved ones
from my family and many life long friends
comforted by moonlight reflecting sunlight
knowing the birth to death cycle never ends
Soft raindrops on my face more coming soon
mix with teardrops under a changing moon

Sirius the Dog Star Sings
-in Canis Major, the Year of the Dog 2018

On the cliffs high above the ocean
starlight shines over Pacific calm
the Milky Way divides the sky
above my head hangs Orion’s belt
planets rise slowly in the east
on Mother earth’s spinning wheel
viewed from northern Long Beach
on clear nights across the reef
Jupiter shines on tranquil water
tonight its clear and is easy to see
typhoon season is coming soon
fresh water springs bubble near the shore
a winter hexagram of bright stars
frames Betelgeuse on Orion’s shoulder
in the Big Dog constellation Sirius sings

Turn Page After Page in Good Reading Light
Inspired by Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night, written for his father by Dylan Thomas b.10/27/1914, d. 11/09/1953.

Skip those cheap romance novels tonight
you’ll have time enough some other day
but turn page after page in good reading light
try a biography or something on starlight
because their words and world surround you
life events similar to your own cosmic twilight
good books take looks at life and its plight
where particle physics interference holds sway
true tales big bangs and subsequent star flight
don’t leave out poetry, some new but more old
true lives of heroes from yesteryear and yesterday
read of cosmos expansion turning dark and cold
take care of your eyes as day turns to night
turn page after page in good reading light.
