April is Autism Awareness Month
The entire month of April is designated to supporting all children and adults that have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Over a million adults and about 1 out of 68 children across the United States are diagnosed with ASD or a form of ASD. The month of April has been dedicated to spreading awareness about what ASD really is and how individuals diagnosed with ASD can still contribute to the community.
Last Friday, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signed a proclamation officially designating the entire month of April to spreading autism awareness.
According to Torres, he is inviting the entire community to recognize autism awareness month and to show consideration for all those who deal with the disorder on a day-to-day basis.
“I would like to invite our entire community to acknowledge all those diagnosed with autism, show them care and understanding for their situation, and be a help through spreading awareness,” he said.
Throughout the month of April, the community can expect activities dedicated to spreading ASD awareness and to raise funds for the Autism Society of the CNMI.
On Saturday, April 14, the community is invited to join the Autism Society of the CNMI’s Quiz Night that will be held at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan from 6pm to 10pm.
Quiz Night is an event that aims to increase autism awareness in the CNMI and to raise funds for the Autism Society of the CNMI.
Tickets to Quiz Night are now available for $30 a piece. Interested individuals can contact Tom Thornburgh at 783-6378 for tickets.
The society will also host a Hotdog Walk and Family Fun Day on April 21 at the Last Command Post from 3pm to 5pm. The event is open to the public.
