Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang urged a member of the Australian Embassy in the Federated States of Micronesia to also promote Saipan in Australia

During her courtesy visit to Apatang’s office yesterday, Apatang urged Australian Embassy deputy head of mission on Pohnpei Eliza Woolcock to include Saipan in tourism promotions for Guam and FSM in Australia.

“Australians are great tourists,” said Apatang, adding that Australia was a promising tourist market for the CNMI back in the 1980s.

“I asked [Woolcock] to see if she can encourage some tourists to come here from Australia,” he said, adding that the Pacific Islands Club Saipan in Chalan Kanoa was owned by an Australian decades ago.

“There used to be a lot of Australians here on Saipan,” Apatang said.
