Antietam sailors discuss Navy life with Saipan students

Sailors assigned to Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam participated in a community relations event at Mount Carmel School on Sept. 29.

Mount Carmel School provides education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and serves the student body with a liberal preparatory curriculum to facilitate learning at every level.

During the event sailors went from class to class, talking about their lives in the Navy and answering student’s questions about what they did.

“The kids were great and it was cool to talk to them about what we do,” said Interior Communication Electrician 3rd Class Jessica Mann. “They had a lot of questions for us, and we got to ask some questions and hear a little about them.”

Sailors also read to students, played volleyball and basketball during recess, and made time to take plenty of photos.

“We had a lot of fun hanging out with the students,” said Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Jacob Bashiom. “I had a great time playing volleyball with them.”

Antietam is on patrol with the George Washington Carrier Strike Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
