Another tropical disturbance may impact NMI
The CNMI Emergency Operations Center, in coordination with the National Weather Service and Joint Typhoon Warning Center, is closely monitoring a tropical disturbance that has the potential to affect the CNMI in the next few days.
A tropical disturbance is now moving west of the Marianas, while another tropical disturbance is well east of the Marianas.
The tropical disturbance west of the Marianas will continue to move away from the region. Most of the showers and thunderstorms associated with the disturbance are well to the west of the Marianas. Flooding rainfall and high winds are no longer expected for the Marianas. However, seas will remain hazardous for operators of small craft.
Another tropical disturbance is about 1,200 miles east of Guam situated north of Kosrae state. This disturbance will track generally west-northwest toward the Mariana Islands over the next few days. This tropical disturbance is expected to take a similar track as the tropical disturbance that passed through the Marianas Monday night, with computer models showing the system tracking north of Saipan. However, the expected track could change in the coming days so residents of the Marianas should stay informed with the latest statements and forecasts issued by the National Weather Service, especially if the disturbance north of Kosrae develops faster than expected and tracks farther south than expected.
Residents and visitors are advised to listen and stay informed for the latest statements and forecasts from the NWS, JTWC, and CNMI EOC. Keep alert for any statements from local officials or call the CNMI Emergency Operations Center at 237-8000 or on HF single side band radio at frequency 5.205.0. (HSEM)
