Another quake jolts east-southeast of Rota

Another earthquake hit near Rota on Tuesday, but there were no reports of damage to property, nor did it cause a tsunami warning.

The 5.9-magnitude earthquake happened 78.9 miles east-southeast of Rota at 11:28am Tuesday, according to the CNMI Joint Information Center.

A Rota police officer said she did not feel any jolt and that police received no reports of damage to property or injuries.

The officer said she was on duty at the police station at the time when the earthquake was reported to have occurred.

She also did not notice the earthquake last Monday.

Last Monday at 9:14am, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred 86 miles east of Rota, but there were no reports of damage to property. Some residents of Saipan felt the jolt.

The Joint Information Center said the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue tsunami warnings or advisories.
