Another Northern Marianas College graduate has joined the list of students who have passed the challenging National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses or NCLEX-RN.

Hannah Alcordo, who graduated from NMC this past May, recently took the exam and passed on her first attempt.

The NCLEX-RN tests an individual’s nursing knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry level. The exam is used by nursing boards in all U.S. states and territories to award nursing licenses.

“We are extremely proud of Hannah’s accomplishment as well as the other nursing students who have been able to reach this important milestone of passing the NCLEX,” said NMC interim president Frankie Eliptico.

Recent NMC graduates who have also passed the NCLEX include Yalan Liu, Lahaina Gatchalian, Honey Jane Ebuen, and Bryan James Balboa.

“Hannah has a bright future in the nursing field and we expect to see great things from her as her educational and professional journey continues,” said NMC Nursing Department chair Rosa M. Tudela. “We wish Hannah the best on her future career in health care.”

“Pursuing nursing as a career had not been my first choice. I was like most freshmen students, I was unsure of what I wanted to pursue,” said Alcordo. “All I wanted to do was to help people and the community while also be in a field that would give me stability and opportunities for growth and nursing had been one of those fields of study.

“NMC and its instructors provided me the resources and push I needed to prepare for the exam,” said Alcordo. “Even when I thought the resources were too expensive and the instructors were a bit too demanding, looking back now, I know that all of that was for my benefit.”

Asked what advice she would give other students who are preparing to take the NCLEX, Alcordo said, “Find a study routine that fits you. Know your strengths and weaknesses with content and test taking, as well as your own learning style. When you have your plan, stick to it. But don’t beat yourself up if you fall off the bandwagon. Just make sure you catch and pick yourself up and stay dedicated to your ultimate goal, which is passing the NCLEX.”
