Anne Lee competing in Australia
Anne Lee is following in the footsteps of her sister, All-American Carol, by playing this week in the 2023 Australian Teams Championships in Gold Coast, Australia.
She was invited through the International Tennis Federation’s Grand Slam Player Development Programme in collaboration with the Oceania Tennis Federation.
The 12-year-old student from Saipan International School will compete in the 13-and-under division.
“I feel honored to be invited as the only NMI junior player and be able to play the Australian Teams Championships. I am thankful for the opportunity that was given by the GSPDP/ITF/OTF. I am excited to experience and explore and meet new players and coaches,” said Anne.
As for her goals in the 2023 Australian Tennis Championships, the girls singles 18 champion of the 2023 NMI Crowne Plaza Junior Tennis Championships didn’t hold back, “My expectations for this tournament is to win my age group.”
The 2023 Australian Teams Championships will include training sessions prior to the slew of tournaments and aside from the younger Lee, other up-and-coming junior netters from Pacific Oceania have been invited to the 10-day competition, which started today, June 19, until June 28.
Anne is expected to duke it out against fellow 13-and-other players from Papua New Guinea and Fiji in her division.
After the 2023 Australia Teams Championships, she will take the short plane ride to Fiji and stay there for a few days until she is joined by the CNMI junior national team competing as part of the North Pacific Team in the 2023 Pacific Oceania Junior Championships in Lautoka.
Anne said prior to leaving for the Land Down Under, she was intensely training with her coach, Dong Min Lee, who is also her father.
“I have been training hard with my dad. I have been very active every day on the courts consistently and I have been practicing a lot with my sister, Carol, and my brother, Sean.”
