Angello, 3 others appointed to boards
Gov. Arnold I. Palacios appointed Friday former Northern Marianas College academic administrator Dr. John “Jack” Angello to serve as a member of the Public Utilities Commission representing Saipan and the Northern Islands, and nominated three others to different boards.
Palacios also appointed Valerie M. Atalig to serve as a member of the board of directors of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., Elvira Manglona Mesngon to serve as a member of the Civil Service Commission, and Daniel Taitano to serve on the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority board of directors.
With respect to Angello, Palacios informed Senate president Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) and House of Representatives Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez (Ind-Saipan) that if confirmed by both the Senate and House, Angello will serve the remainder of a four-year term that will expire on April 2, 2024.
Palacios said Angello is highly qualified to fulfill the vital responsibilities of PUC. The governor said he and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident that Angello will devote his time and efforts to represent the interests of the Commonwealth.
Regarding Atalig’s appointment to the CUC board, Palacios told DeLeon Guerrero that if confirmed by the Senate, Atalig, who will represent Rota, will serve a four-year term on the CUC board.
He said he and Apatang are confident that Atalig is qualified and will be an asset on the CUC board.
As for Mesngon’s appointment to CSC, Palacios told DeLeon Guerrero that because the terms of CSC board members are staggered, if confirmed, the appointee, who will represent Rota, will serve the remainder of a six-year term that will expire on Jan. 9, 2029.
The governor said he and Apatang are confident that Mesngon will contribute productively to the work of the CSC, and that she would devote her time and efforts necessary to carry out the mandates of the commission.
About the appointment of Taitano to CEDA, Palacios said that, if confirmed by the Senate, the appointee, who will represent Rota, will serve the remainder of a four-year term that will expire on Sept. 25, 2024.
He said he and Apatang are confident that Taitano is qualified and will be an asset on the CEDA board.
Palacios said they are confident in Taitano’s leadership to ensure efficient continuity of the functions and mandates of the CEDA as they work toward achieving the administration’s goals and objectives.
