Angeles, Chong top first roll-off in 2015
Raymond Angeles and Diane Chong topped the first roll-off of the 2015 Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes held last Sunday and Monday at the Saipan Bowling Center in San Jose.

Angeles, who finished third after losing to eventual champion Simon Manacop in the King of the Lanes finale, had the best score on the final day to clinch the $90 top prize. He bowled in the 200s in three of the four-game series.
Angeles started the final day of the roll-off with a 224, but slowed down in the second game with a 152. He managed to shake it off with a 247 and 214 for the 837 total and a 209.25 average.
He also joined the first day, but was nowhere near athe leaders then with a 674 tally—158, 174, 173, 169—for a 168.5 average.
Angeles bested Ador Dimaano by 17 pins as the veteran kegler had 820 pinfalls in his first day —196, 210, 201, 204—for a 205 average and the $40 prize.
Dimaano had a roller-coaster final day with games of 205, 182, 176, and 216 for 779 (194.75).
Robert Talavera also improved his opening day score by six pins, from 812 on Sunday to 818 on Monday night. His four-game series—210, 189, 223, 196—on the final day earned him the third place honors and $30. Percy Omechelang finished fourth with a final day tally of 815—234, 174, 204, 203—good enough for $20.
Chong, meanwhile, had her final game on Sunday to thank for as she clinched the January Queen of the Lanes crown by one pin. She defeated Kathy Mersai for the title.
Chong was actually trailing Mersai by 32 pins after three games, but the former’s 230 in the fourth was enough to secure her the crown and the $80 top purse. She tallied 718 against Mersai’s 717.
Mersai went home with the $35 runner-up prize, while Gloria Omechelang (696) and 2014 Queen of the Lanes finale champion Diana Camacho (680) came in third and fourth, respectively, to settle for $25 and $15.
Manacop, brothers Ruselle, Raymond and Raphael Zapanta,, Lee Yong Woon, Raul Dumapit, Paul Pangelinan, Bernard Paraiso, M.J. Aldan, Ariel Dumapit, Edward Baluyan, Ben Aizon, Jorge Soledad, Lito Teodoro, Tony Yarobwemal, and Ronald Batac were the others bowlers who joined the January roll-off.
Tess Fabie, Carrie Camacho, Yho Villavicencio, Janice Camacho, Ron Call, Elena Soll, Myrna Santos, Lunda Yarobwemal, Gigi Zapanta, Anna Kim, Lala Taitano, and Dolores Palacios were the other participants in the women’s division.
