AmeriCorps and MYPros plant trees at Hopwood

The AmeriCorps program at Hopwood Junior High School teamed up with the Marianas Young Professionals on Monday afternoon to beautify the middle school campus. AmeriCorps tutors and students, together with the MYPros members, planted over 20 flame trees, palm trees, and other plants at the school’s soccer field.

According to Social Studies teacher and AmeriCorps site supervisor Jackie Echon, the field is used for a plethora of community events such as the Marianas March Against Cancer and sports tournaments. AmeriCorps tutors Eimee Quilala, Melony David, and Thomas Manglona hope that the trees will provide much needed shade for spectators in the future.
