Altering official docs now a crime

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signed into law House Bill 20-111 yesterday, making it a crime to alter any official document bearing the court seal, including certified copies.

The law states that every person who willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, takes away, mutilates, obliterates, alters (including the alteration of any document displaying the court seal or a copy of the court seal), destroys, or attempts to do so, or willfully takes and carries away records or process in or from any court or official authorized to issue or serve the same, is guilty of tampering with judicial records or process. Upon being convicted of this crime, a person may be imprisoned for not more than five years, or fined not more than $1,000, or both.

Offered by Rep. Glenn L. Maratita, H.B. 20-111 becomes Public Law 20-62. (PR)
