$100,000 cash bail imposed

Police arrested on Saturday morning beach volleyball player Jazzy Rosokow, who was tagged as the driver of a rental car that was used during the robbery of three female tourists along Banzai Cliff Road in Marpi.

Separately, acting Public Safety spokesman Jason Tarkong confirmed over the weekend that the driver of the getaway vehicle had been arrested but he declined to provide more information, saying he has no details yet.

Saipan Tribune sources, however, disclosed that members of a special DPS task force served an arrest warrant on Rosokow on Saturday at 6:57am on charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and disturbing the peace.

The task force, sources said, also executed a search warrant at Rosokow’s residence in Tanapag, where the officers recovered the victims’ property.
Sources said it was Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho who issued the arrest and search warrants.

Camacho imposed a $100,000 cash bail, sources added.

DPS Commissioner Robert A. Guerrero disclosed Friday that he had created a special task force led by Sgt. Simon Manacop to investigate the spate of robberies on Saipan.

The task force first arrested in the evening last May 14 Alvin Jacob Iguel Blas, a 28-year-old bakery employee, who was allegedly the man who grabbed the backpack of the three tourists along Banzai Cliff Road that afternoon.

One victim, who ran after Blas and got dragged by the suspects’ rented Hyundai Accent, had several abrasions on her forearms, left hand, left knuckles, wrists, elbows, and right knee.

Police said the victim, Quichan Yang, and her two sisters had parked their rented car, a pink Mustang, along the shoulder of the Banzai Cliff Road to take some photographs.

The suspects parked their rented Hyundai Accent 20 feet behind the Mustang, then one, identified later as Blas, approached the passenger side of the Mustang and asked Yang if they needed help taking pictures.

Blas, however, grabbed Yang’s backpack that she had placed on her lap, and a struggle ensued, resulting in her being dragged on the road.

Another tourist, however, managed to take video of the incident, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of Blas that same night.

The video reportedly went viral in China and in the Chinese community in the CNMI.
