The Saipan Fishermen’s Association will hold the 39th Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament this weekend, July 22 and 23.

Organizers are anticipating about 80 boats from around the Marianas to join the event, including about 10 boats and crews from Guam.

Prizes will be awarded for first to third place in each of five game fish categories: Billfish, yellowfin, wahoo, mahi mahi, and skipjack. Prizes will also be awarded for total weight and grand prize for the biggest marlin.

“The SFA is fortunate to host fishermen from Guam and the CNMI for an exciting two-day tournament,” said SFA president Tony Scragg. He added, “This is an event that brings together the community—especially families—to come out and cheer for all the participants.”

Pre-registration will be held at Smiling Cove Marina on Friday, July 21, from 4pm to 6pm, where SFA will provide a tournament briefing. The tournament will begin at 6am and end at 6pm on July 22 and July 23.

The SFA will host an awards ceremony on Monday, July 24, at 6pm at Kensington Hotel Saipan. Non-tournament participants may attend for $35 per person.
