Despite the sudden outpour, the 2019 All Schools Cross Country Championships Series officially started last Saturday with hundreds of students running at the Saipan Country Club.
Over 200 students from private and public schools were seen enjoying the race despite the early morning showers. Perennial cross country participants Agape Christian School and Saipan International School brought a lot of students from the elementary, middle school, and high school departments. Mt. Carmel School and Marianas High School students also joined the kick-off that was postponed last Sept. 14 due to the heavy rain and thunder.
The elementary division participants seemed enthused about running in the pouring rain last weekend, while high school students also got drenched in the rain as they waited for their turn to start the race. The elementary school students were tasked to run one lap around the course, middle school students did two laps, and the high school students completed three laps.
Results of the races have yet to be released as of press time last night.
Meanwhile, the next run is schedule for Sept. 28 and it will be held at the Banzai Lookout and hosted by the SIS Geckos.
The race will start at 6:30am, so students are encouraged to be on site at the Last Command Post before the kickoff.
The Public School System and Northern Marianas Athletics are teaming up in holding the series of cross country races. Four qualifying runs are scheduled before the finale and students must compete in at least three to gain entry to the championship tentatively set for Oct. 18.
