The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam has declared an Alert Level 1 for Filipinos in Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
The Department of Foreign Affairs based in Manila approved the recommendation made by Consulate General Marciano DeBorja. The approval was stated in a press release from the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Agana.
“Placing Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands on Alert Level 1 for Filipino Nationals is not intended to cause undue alarm or panic. This is simply to encourage our citizens to be vigilant and to bee prepared should any critical incidents arise,” said DeBorja.
The Alert Level 1 signals a precautionary phase. This phase urges Filipinos on Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to be aware of current updates on the North Korea missile crisis.
Filipinos residing on the islands mentioned are to keep themselves updated via media outlets, and official advisories from the Government of Guam’s Homeland Security-Office of Civil Defense.
Filipinos are also encouraged to keep in touch with family members with any updates or possible emergencies.
Filipinos are also reminded to be prepared for immediate response in case of a sudden evacuation. Travel documents should be prepared along with a bag of necessary supplies.
According to the press release, Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Cayetano also assures Filipinos that a contingency plan is in place and if a missile is fired toward Guam, the consulate general will be ready to respond to assist affected Filipinos.
