Alamo, Homeboyz edge foes to remain on top
National Alamo Car Rental and the Jokers Homeboyz escaped with hard-earned 7-6 wins over separate opponents to remain on top of the Budweiser-Saipan Billiards Association Open 8-Ball Thursday League when action resumed last week.
No games were held in the Thursday League because of the holiday season as Dec. 24 and 31, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, fell on Thursdays.
Alamo defeated the Jokers WildBoyz, while the Homeboyz edged lowly Jonny’s Team SCS. The Wild Bill’s Rack ‘N’ Roll also scored a 7-6 win over sister squad Wild Wild West.
Both matchups by the Alamo and WildBoyz were decided in the final Partner’s 8-Ball event.
Alamo’s Manny Mariano and Rodel Dela Cruz got the better of Ray Matsunaga and Randy Sablan to break a 6-6 tally.
Alamo jumped to a 5-1 lead, but the WildBoyz rallied back to take a 6-5 edge and moved a win away of wrapping up the contest.
Rey Hermogenes and Joseph Achas delivered for Alamo as they dispatched John Reyes and Sablan to force a deciding match with Mariano and Dela Cruz wrapping up the victory.
It was almost the same result in the Homeboyz-SCS match with the former also needing Nolan Cultura and Rick Elefante’s triumph over Bryan Fabre and James Villacrucis to seal the win.
Alamo continues to hold the top ranking with a 55-36 record followed closely by the 54-37 mark of the Homeboyz. The WildBoyz (49-42), Wild Wild West (41-50), Rack ‘N’ Roll (40-51), and Team SCS (34-57) complete the standings.
In last week’s Tuesday League, the Jokers IT&E Voyagers pulled away from the rest of the pack after an 11-2 decision over the fellow Jokers-backed squad Destroyers.
The Voyagers now have an 82-48 slate or 15 wins ahead of the 67-63 mar of the Jokers Docomo Hustlers, an 8-5 loser to the Jonny’s Titans.
The Destroyers dropped to 64-66, while the Jokers StraightBlackBall are fourth with a 62-68 standing. The Titans (61-69) and the Jonny’s Crazy 8 (54-76) are the other squads competing in this season’s Tuesday Open 8-Ball League.
The Titans trounced the Hustlers, 8-5, and the Crazy 8 nipped the StraighBlackBall, 7-6, in the other matches.
