The Advanced Language and Academic Institute or ALAI is planning to open a new pre-school this fall.
Nina Rivera, ALAI founder and program coordinator, said that the pre-school slated to open in August will employ a combined creative and German curriculum based on a pre-school franchise from Korea for their future young learners.
“We’re bringing that here and aligning it with the core curriculum of the Public School System’s standards and benchmarks,” said Rivera, guest speaker at yesterday’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Saipan.
ALAI, Rivera said, is a tutorial center made up of qualified instructors and professional staff who provide language and academic tutorials in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
The institution also provides tutorials in SATs, TOEFL, ACTs, and ESL for business, conversation, and survival functions.
Rivera disclosed that the pre-school is only among the several new developments they have at ALAI which is located above Payless Shoe Source in San Jose.
The tutorial center will soon offer Russian language lessons in addition to Japanese, Chinese, and Korean languages.
Rivera said they also expanded ALAI’s Kids Club with their new, 1,200-square foot indoor jungle gym play structure which has features that include zipline and trampoline and can be booked for children’s parties.
“You can drop off your kids there and they will have fun,” said Rivera of the Kid’s Club, which also offers lessons on music and dance, crafts, storytelling, speech classes.
Rivera also revealed that ALAI is working on its non-profit license to allow the center to avail of grants and funding in relation to their vision, which is to expand to different parts of the island and offer services to families from different income brackets.
“We’d like to offer scholarships and co-pay programs for those who really want the help that we provide but just can’t afford it,” she said.
Rivera added that for the first time, ALAI is offering this year a summer camp catering to local children. About 25 to 30 students have signed up for the summer camp, which was previously geared to Korean students only.
